Rare French turn of the (20th) century or earlier, this ceramic bowl was hand thrown and crafted from a light grey clay native to the area in which it was made.
The rim and interior are glazed, while the exterior below the green rim has been left unglazed. As you can see in the photos the green is a remarkably charismatic color. While crafted long ago, this piece looks true in any setting, from Julia Morgan style to Modern, due to its clean lines and use of a single strong color.
Measurements: 3"H x 4"across
Historical reference: All pottery at this time was made from local clay near the potter, often within 5 miles of their studio; the potters themselves commonly dug up the clay for their pots themselves.
