Set of 6 antique plates crafted in France circa 1870. Called "La Vie de Soldat" each scene depicts what a soldier of that time did in addition to fighting--storytelling, helping the wounded, comforting the injured, and camaraderie. Each of the plates and images were made by hand as noted by the slight irregularities in both the forming of the clay and the decoration. Incredible that these have survived so long in such extraordinary condition.
